Dear friends,
It’s been a truly memorable few weeks. First, with my daughter’s engagement. Second, with the birth of my third grandchild. Third with the announcement of my 3-book deal with Harper Collins. And now TRUMAN winning not just one, but two major awards. I’m overcome with gratitude. But as you might expect, my excitement is tempered with the tragic news, the sobering and necessary demonstrations, and the mandatory call to action. Rest assured, I am taking action. Because, indeed, Black Lives Matter.
Still, I thought it important to take a moment to share with you this bit of good news.
The Colorado Book Award annually “celebrates Colorado’s outstanding authors, editors, illustrators, and photographers.” And the Crystal Kite Award “is a peer-given award to recognize great books from 15 SCBWI regional divisions around the world.”
Thank you to both Colorado Humanities and Center for the Book and to The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. I’m deeply honored.
And thanks to all of you readers and fellow writers who journey alongside me on this kidlit adventure. Stay safe and stay well. We’re all in this together.
